West Bengal Creates Dedicated Cyber Crime Wing, Hiring 188 Experts


In an effort to combat the rising tide of cybercrime, West Bengal has unveiled a dedicated Cyber Crime Wing (WB-CCW) within its state police force. This strategic move is aimed at enhancing the state's ability to manage and address cyber-related issues with more efficiency. By establishing the WB-CCW, the West Bengal government is making a strong commitment to tackle the growing threat of cybercrimes head-on. This new unit, along with the creation of 188 new positions and the transfer of 305 existing ones from four standalone units under the West Bengal Police, is set to revolutionize the management and administration of cybercrime-related matters within the state.

Strengthening the Battle Against Cybercrime 

The Background of Cyber Crime Management in West Bengal

Presently, West Bengal manages cybercrime complaints through 34 Cyber Crime Police Stations spread across different Commissionerates and Districts. In addition to this, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) supervises one Cyber Crime Police Station, while four standalone units within the West Bengal Police handle cyber-related matters. To streamline administrative procedures and enhance the overall handling of cybercrime cases, the West Bengal Police Directorate proposed the establishment of the West Bengal Cyber Crime Wing (WB-CCW).

The Birth and Responsibilities of WB-CCW

Following thorough consideration, the Governor of West Bengal has given the green light to the establishment of WB-CCW. This dedicated wing will amalgamate existing units, including the Cyber Patrol Cell, Cyber Crime Cell, Cyber Forensic and Digital Evidence Examiner's Laboratory (CFDEEL) under CID, and the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS). WB-CCW will assume comprehensive administrative control over the Cyber Crime Police Station of the Criminal Investigation Department in West Bengal.

Allocation of Personnel and Resources

This initiative encompasses the creation of 188 new positions across various categories, including 134 regular posts and 54 IT professionals hired through engagement. Furthermore, 305 posts from different categories will be relocated from the existing standalone units under the West Bengal Police to the newly established WB-CCW. The necessary financial resources for this endeavor will be drawn from the appropriate budgetary provisions for the West Bengal Police.

Cybercrime in Nagpur - Cyber Blackmailer Couple Arrested in Pune for Extorting Money

A sensational case of  cyber black mailing  and cheating has come to light in the city.  In this case registered at Pratap Nagar police station, the police have arrested 3 including the main accused IT professional husband and wife from Pune. Arrested accused includes Shatrughan Singh Tangral and his wife Manjusha along with Rahul Satyendra Jha, all three are residents of Pune.
