This cautionary tale takes place in Chandigarh, where Naveen Gupta, a resident in search of new employment prospects, decided to upload his resume on various internet job sites. Little did he know that his journey would take a harrowing turn. Shortly after posting his resume, Naveen received a call from an individual claiming to represent a national media group. The caller extended a job offer to Naveen and initiated the process of scheduling an interview. In a seemingly legitimate move, Naveen was asked to pay a scheduling fee of Rs 6,500 to secure the interview slot. Without suspicion, Naveen complied and transferred the fee online.

However, what followed was a series of increasingly suspicious demands for money under various pretexts. The cybercriminals, posing as recruiters, requested payments for verification, medical tests, IT training, and mandatory courses, among other things. To Naveen's relief, these requirements were met, and an official appointment letter was eventually issued by the fraudulent organization. Unbeknownst to him, this letter was a counterfeit document. The scammers succeeded in extracting a total of Rs 6.4 lakh from Naveen before his suspicions were aroused.

As the demands for money continued to escalate, Naveen took it upon himself to investigate the situation. It was at this point that he discovered the grim reality - the appointment letter he had received was a clever forgery. Realizing that he had fallen victim to a sophisticated job scam, Naveen promptly reported the incident to the cybercrime division.

Naveen's case is just one example of the extensive cyber fraud occurring in the realm of online job seeking, particularly in the name of part-time or remote opportunities. Cybercriminals employ a variety of tactics to deceive and manipulate job seekers. To avoid falling into their traps, here are some essential precautions to keep in mind:
