Odisha Takes the Digital Leap: 1930 Cyber Crime Help Line Unveiled!

New Delhi, Bhubaneswar: In a significant stride towards fortifying cybersecurity and combatting cybercrime in Odisha, Sunil Kumar Bansal, IPS, Director General of Police (DGP) for Odisha, inaugurated the state-of-the-art 1930 Cyber Crime Help Line Call Centre & Cyber Help Desk today at the Cyber Complex in Bhubaneswar. The call center, operational round the clock in three shifts, is staffed by trained police constables and backed by the Ministry of Home Affairs’ I4C (Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre).

The 1930 Cyber Crime Help Line Call Centre stands as a pivotal addition to the state's robust efforts to combat cybercrimes effectively. Equipped with 10 dedicated lines, it is primed to handle inquiries, reports, and provide assistance to individuals encountering cyber threats or falling prey to online crimes. In the face of the escalating cybercrime landscape, this dedicated call center is poised to serve as a beacon of hope for Odisha residents in search of guidance and assistance in navigating the intricate world of digital security.

Comprehensive Services within the Cyber Crime Unit

Complementing the 1930 Cyber Crime Help Line Call Centre, the Cyber Crime Unit of Odisha's Crime Branch has introduced several initiatives aimed at fortifying the state’s cybercrime-fighting capabilities.

Children & Women Online Abuse Monitoring Unit (CWOAMU)

CWOAMU has been established to address online complaints concerning children and women, received through the NCRP (National Cybercrime Reporting Portal). This specialized unit will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the interests and well-being of vulnerable individuals online.

Cyber Investigation Support Team (CIST)

The formation of the Cyber Investigation Support Team (CIST) serves to provide live and real-time support to investigating officers during cybercrime investigations. This initiative is expected to expedite the resolution of cybercrimes and ensure that perpetrators are promptly brought to justice.

Cyber Monitoring & Coordination (M & C) Unit

The Cyber Monitoring & Coordination Unit (M & C) will concentrate on handling SIM/IMEI blocking of cyber fraudsters. It will also work towards establishing backward linkages from cases detected in other states, facilitating the tracking and apprehension of cybercriminals operating across state borders.

Cyber Training Unit

A dedicated Cyber Training Unit has been set up to deliver year-round training in the field of cybersecurity. This initiative aims to equip law enforcement personnel with the knowledge and skills necessary to stay ahead of cybercriminals in an ever-evolving digital landscape.

A Unified Front Against Cybercrime

The launch of these innovative cybercrime-fighting initiatives underscores Odisha Police's commitment to fostering a safer digital environment for its citizens. With the 1930 Cyber Crime Help Line Call Centre as its cornerstone, these specialized units within the Cyber Crime Unit are prepared to collaborate seamlessly, forming a unified front against cybercrime.

Director General of Police, Sunil Kumar Bansal, emphasized the significance of these initiatives in combatting the growing menace of cybercrimes. With these new units and the 1930 Cyber Crime Help Line Call Centre, we are better equipped to respond to cyber threats and protect our community in the digital age.”

In partnership with the Ministry of Home Affairs and I4C, the Odisha Police is setting a precedent in the country by proactively addressing cybercrimes and extending support and assistance to those in need. The 1930 Cyber Crime Help Line Call Centre and the associated units within the Cyber Crime Unit are poised to play a pivotal role in ensuring that Odisha remains a secure and protected haven for all its residents in the digital era.
