Cyber Crime Crackdown: Kerala Police Deactivates 300 SIM Cards and Takes Down 100 Scam Sites In Two Weeks

 

Kerala's cyber crimes wing has initiated a robust operation against cyber fraudsters, yielding impressive results such as the deactivation of more than 300 SIM cards and the takedown of nearly 100 fraudulent websites engaged in various economic malpractices.

This endeavor stands as Kerala's most extensive crackdown on cybercrime to date, showcasing law enforcement's proactive stance in curbing the escalating menace of online scams.

The Vanguard: 'Hunters' Team

At the forefront of this operation stands a specialized unit known as the 'Hunters', comprising four adept members. These professionals leverage cutting-edge software while drawing upon vital insights from victims. Through their concerted efforts, the 'Hunters' have successfully tracked and deactivated SIM cards employed by fraudsters. By working in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications, these skilled officers have effectively incapacitated compromised SIM cards, rendering them incapable of communication.

Toppling Scam-hosting Websites

Beyond their focus on SIM cards, the 'Hunters' team has also made substantial headway in dismantling deceitful websites, the primary breeding grounds for numerous cyber scams. These websites frequently masquerade as sham e-commerce platforms, enticing victims with incredulously cheap products and then defrauding them through upfront payments. By neutralizing nearly 100 of these deceptive websites, law enforcement strikes directly at the core of the scammers' operations.

Cyber Crimes SP Hari Sankar has voiced his enthusiasm for this pioneering endeavor, highlighting its unprecedented nature. Sankar emphasized, "This proactive approach will serve as a potent deterrent, significantly elevating the operational costs for fraudsters." The deactivation of SIM cards not only exacts a financial toll on cyber criminals, who must allocate substantial resources to acquire counterfeit documents for new cards, but it also renders their mobile phones entirely inoperative for communication.

This operation signifies a profound transformation in the state police's role in combatting cyber financial fraud. Cybercrime in Nagpur - Cyber Blackmailer Couple Arrested in Pune for Extorting Money

A sensational case of  cyber black mailing  and cheating has come to light in the city.  In this case registered at Pratap Nagar police station, the police have arrested 3 including the main accused IT professional husband and wife from Pune. Arrested accused includes Shatrughan Singh Tangral and his wife Manjusha along with Rahul Satyendra Jha, all three are residents of Pune. It is alleged that he stole source code and client's data from the director of a company based in Nagpur in the last 5 years and blackmailed them with rigging of about 9 crores.   The City Exelon Software Private Limited Company in Nagpur has been rocked by a case of cyber blackmailing , source code and data theft, and software rigging that has left its director, Vinod Kumar Tambi, reeling. The accused parties include Pune resident IT professional Shatrughan Singh Tangral and his wife, Manjusha, who are the main culprits in the case. It is alleged that they used Tambi's company's source code and data to form their own company and rigged bills worth crores.
