E-Challan Scam: Thugs are robbing people in the name of fake e-challan, know the way to avoid it

 

Scam cases persist nationwide, with scammers devising novel methods to fleece people of their hard-earned money. A new cheating scheme has recently surfaced, enabling perpetrators to effortlessly drain funds from unsuspecting victims' accounts – the E-challan scam.

Hemendra Kumar Meena, Cyber Officer at DCP Headquarters in Faridabad, has exposed the alarming rise in E-challan payment scams. Hackers initiate this ploy by sending deceptively authentic-looking messages, nearly indistinguishable from genuine traffic police notifications.

These fraudulent messages claim that traffic regulations have been violated, necessitating a fine payment. Moreover, a hyperlink is included within the message, leading recipients to a counterfeit website. In some instances, cybercriminals exploit this link to breach the user's device, subsequently pilfering their entire account balance.

To safeguard yourself from falling victim to such cyber fraud:

  • Exercise Caution: Avoid clicking on suspicious links that arouse doubts.

  • Distinguish Genuine from Fake Websites: Scrutinize website URLs carefully to differentiate between authentic and counterfeit sites. Scammers can easily siphon your funds if you fail to discern the difference.

  • Contact Traffic Police Directly: If you receive an E-challan and harbor doubts about its legitimacy, reach out to the traffic police department directly. Never make any payments without verifying the source.

  • Use Official Channels: When paying an E-challan, exclusively utilize the official website of the traffic police department:
