Fraud was happening on social media in the name of Business Promotion, Fake Call Center exposed in Noida
There have been reports of fraudulent activities being carried out in the name of promoting businesses and startups on social media platforms. Cybercriminals have been using various tactics to cheat startups by promising to promote their business. Recently, the Noida Police uncovered a fake call center that was involved in such cyber fraud. The call center was located in E Block, Sector-3, and three cybercriminals were arrested in the raid. These fraudsters, Lokesh Kumar Singh and Arun Kumar from Faridabad, and Himanshu from Sector-12 had hired young men and women to make calls and trick small traders and startups into promoting their businesses on social media.
The fraudsters would obtain the numbers of small traders and startups from various websites, including Just Dial. They would contact these traders through the fake call center and offer them tempting deals to promote their business on social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. However, after taking the money, no promotion work would be done for the traders. The fraudsters had been running several call centers in different locations in Noida and had registered the company at an address in Laxminagar, Delhi.

According to ADCP Shakti Mohan Awasthi of Noida Zone, the police team uncovered the fake call center and found that the fraudsters were committing fraud in two ways. Firstly, they would take money from people for promotion work and then not do the work. Secondly, they would hire young men and women to make calls and pay them a salary for the first month. After that, they would fire them for not meeting the target, which meant that they would only pay one month's salary but get two to three months of work done. This fraud came to light when victim employees complained to the police.
The fraudsters would target people from distant states and cities to avoid detection. They offered promotion packages ranging from Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 10,000, and sometimes they would take more money in the name of different packages. The police investigation revealed that the fraudsters had been carrying out such frauds since 2018, and they had cheated more than 500 people over the past five years. In recent times, they had defrauded Ayodhya resident Dilip, New Delhi resident Wasim, Sonu Mehndi, Faisal Hussain, and many others of lakhs of rupees in the name of business promotion.
