Cyber ​​Attacks: 73 percent of the country's organizations became victims of cyber attacks, getting data back like this

 

In the wake of the escalating cases of cybercrime plaguing the nation, a significant revelation has emerged. Sophos, a renowned cybersecurity organization, has published a report indicating that approximately 73 percent of organizations in the country are falling victim to cyber attacks. This represents a substantial increase compared to last year's figure of 57 percent, highlighting a worrisome trend.


The report further reveals that a staggering 44 percent of these organizations have resorted to paying ransom money to fraudulent actors in order to regain access to their compromised data. The survey, conducted between January and March of this year, identifies higher educational institutions as the primary targets of cyber criminals.

Alarming as it may be, the report discloses that once companies agree to pay the ransom demanded, the attackers often double the amount. However, within a timeframe ranging from a week to a month, various organizations have managed to fully recover their data. Interestingly, it is worth noting that approximately 79 percent of institutions affiliated with the higher education sector have lodged complaints regarding cyber attacks, while organizations in other sectors have disclosed minimal information on such incidents. The financial sector, in particular, is believed to have refrained from sharing sufficient details due to non-disclosure agreements.


The dynamics of cybersecurity are at play in these circumstances. A cyber attack expert from Sophos highlights that nearly three-quarters of Indian organizations firmly believe that skilled cyber professionals can swiftly identify patterns indicating an ongoing intrusion and take immediate action to safeguard their organization. This underscores the critical need for organizations to maintain a constant state of vigilance in order to establish an effective security framework that shields them from any potential cyber threats.
