Cyber criminals will be controlled, first cyber security center to be built in Chandigarh

The rise of
cyber fraud cases in the country has become a major concern for everyone, as many people fall victim to such scams every day. To address this issue, the government has decided to establish the country's first Cyber Operations and Security Center in Chandigarh Sector-18, which will help catch cyber criminals easily. The center, which will cost Rs 88 crore, will be run by the police, and it will make it difficult for hackers to penetrate the computer systems of administrative offices.

Chandigarh SP Ketan Bansal mentioned that the center will be built from two directions, which is a big achievement for the city. Initially, the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) will manage the center and provide training to police personnel. After the training, the center will be handed over to the police department. The center will also have a training lab to equip officers with the necessary skills to combat hackers.

The center will be linked to various departments of the Chandigarh Administration to prevent their computer systems from being hacked. An operating system (OS) will also be installed, which will issue alerts in case of hacking attempts. The Ministry of Home Affairs has allocated Rs 22.35 crore from the budget for this project, with a total cost of Rs 88 crore. Once the Administrator BL Purohit approves the project, work will commence.

The center will also have a social media cell that will monitor rumors and other information from the beginning, which will be linked to the police helpline number 112. The center will also focus on predictive policing, where rallies and protests will be monitored for potential crimes or violence. This will allow the police to react quickly and prevent crime.

Most of the expenditure will be on software and hardware, and only in-house software from DRDO will be installed. The center will be completed within six months and will also work on the face recognition system, linking the data of suspicious and criminal individuals with high-resolution cameras installed in the city. In case any suspect information is detected, an alert will be issued so that the police can take immediate action.

With the installation of in-house software and hardware, predictive policing, and face recognition systems, the center will also help monitor and prevent crime and violence in the city.
