Clicking a YouTube Video Link Cost a Girl Rs. 1.98 Lakh: The Dangers of Cybercrime

In today's digital world, social media platforms have become a part of our daily lives. From entertainment to communication, social media has revolutionized the way we interact with each other. However, it's essential to use these platforms wisely, as one wrong click can lead to serious consequences.

Sahibabad: Every day new methods of online fraud come to light. Recently, a case of a fraud of Rs. 1.98 lakhs was reported in Sahibabad where cyber criminals lured a young woman by offering her the temptation to earn money by liking a YouTube link and completing online tasks. They then transferred money from her account to another account. When the woman demanded more money, she became suspicious and filed a complaint with the Cyber Cell in Thane.

In fact, there is a young woman named Manisha who lives in front of the Fire Station in Sahibabad. She said that she received a message on Telegram, which mentioned liking a link on YouTube and completing an online task to earn money. They also sent her a link to an app, on which she created her ID.

After that, she slowly completed the task. Meanwhile, in exchange for completing the task, they continued to trick her by showing transfers of money into her account. The game went on, and over time, the scammers tricked Manisha into transactions of nearly Rs. 1.98 lakhs by offering her the promise of paid benefits. But when Manisha asked for the profits, they began to stall. They asked her to transfer Rs. 1.58 once again, which she refused to do, and that's when she realized she had been scammed. She filed a complaint with the cyber cell. The police say that a report has been filed, and the investigation is underway.

Cyber expert's cyber tips:

  • You can book an online flight ticket yourself, or contact an authorized agent for this matter.
  • Do not trust people you meet through social media until you physically verify them.
  • Also, let it be known that you can apply for a visa yourself. If you seek the help of an agent, first verify their physical existence.

To stay safe from cybercrime, keep these things in mind:

  • Do not click on any links provided in the description or comments of any YouTube video.
  • Do not download any software or app through YouTube videos.
  • Most videos ask you to download software such as Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Autodesk 3ds Max, and AutoCAD. Do not do so, always use licensed software or use them online.

In conclusion, the incident of the girl from Hyderabad serves as a reminder that we need to be cautious while using social media platforms. Always verify the source of the links and be cautious of phishing scams. Use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication to add an extra layer of security to your accounts.
